Ban on Co-options

Ban on Co-options

ZANU PF has prohibited co-options and votes of no confidence for party organs leadership during the on-going restructuring process and massive membership recruitment drive in the party.
In a circular addressed to provinces, the Acting Secretary for Commissariat Cde Patrick Chinamasa declared all co-options and votes of no confidence conducted from April 2021 null and void.
“It has come to the attention of the Department that some provinces are conducting co-options to fill in vacant posts in their branches, districts and provincial executive committees. Provinces are aware that the party is currently conducting a restructuring exercise which will naturally redress the issue of vacant posts. Provinces are therefore prohibited from carrying out any co-options and votes of no confidence in any of the above mentioned party organs,” he said.
“In respect of the above, it is directed that all co-options and votes of no confidence conducted from April 2021, which marked the commencement of the current restructuring exercise to December 2021 are null and void.”
Cde Chinamasa said all co-options or vote of no confidence should be approved by the Commissariat Department first before conduction.
“In future, no co-options or vote of no confidence should be done by provinces without the explicit approval of the commissariat department at the Headquarters,” he said.
This comes at a time when Zanu PF has undertaken to mobilise five million votes for the 2023 harmonised elections, as the party seeks to consolidate gains it has made in the Government through implementation of the National Development Strategy 1.
The party embarked on restructuring exercises meant to prepare for the 2023 general elections, an exercise expected to be completed by September this year ahead of the National People’s Conference in October which will be hosted in Mashonaland Central Province.
