SMALL GATHERING FOR THIS YEAR’S HEROES DAY

A small gathering will characterize this year’s commemorations of the Heroes day as the country battles with the covid-19 pan

It is a norm that every August, the country honours the sacrifices of the country’s gallant sons and daughters who fought to liberate the country from colonial rule. However because of the pandemic, few people will gather this year to mark the celebrations.

Revealed through the Post Cabinet briefing yesterday, Minister of Information Cde Monica Mutsvangwa said the few will represent the nation.

“There will be small gatherings this year to mark the Heroes Day commemorations.The 2021 main Heroes Day commemorations which will be held on 9 August at the National Heroes Acre will be a hybrid event with a small gathering of 200 people depicting the national outlook," she said.

War Veterans, spouses of Heroes and Heroines and youth will be part of the event addressed by His Excellency the President and First Secretary of ZANU PF Cde E.D Mnangagwa who
will address the nation using virtual platforms.

The President is set to confer medals on 16 recipients in various categories of Honours and Awards.

Provincial celebrations will be held at provincial shrines with Ministers of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution officiating.

Provincial gatherings will be limited to fifty persons drawn from the respective districts in the province.

The Ministers of State will also confer medals on nominees of the 2021 Honours and Awards.
