STRINGENT COVID-19 MEASURES MUST BE IMPLEMENTED: CDE MPOFU
By Tendai Moyo
ZANU PF Secretary for Administration Cde Obert Mpofu has called for more stringent covid-19 measures to be put in place following high infections rates being recorded in some towns.
This he said during the Policy and Coordination meeting held at the Party Headquarters this morning during which he expressed the Party’s satisfaction at the appetite for covid-19 vaccination. The covid-19 pandemic which is believed to be in its third wave continues to ravage innocent lives with statistics showing that those not vaccinated against the virus are more vulnerable. The cumulative figure of those vaccinated with the first does currently stands at 1 634 112 while 779 229 have been completely vaccinated.
“This is a special month when we celebrate our departed National Heroes and our Forces for their gallantry in defending the sovereignty of our country. In this past month of July we have been inundated with several of our comrades succumbing to the dreaded Covid-19 pandemic. The same month of July, has realized high infection and death rate. This has really been unprecedented as we have continuously recorded an average of 50 deaths per day,” Cde Mpofu said.
“The Provincial roadshows by the Vice President and Second Secretary Cde Col. Rtd KCD Moohadi in which he is drumming up the issue of observance of the Covid-19 protocols is quite significant and appropriate in these trying times and urge the same message is rallied across all Provinces.
“Here at Party Headquarters, the interventions implemented by our Secretary of Health and the Elderly, as it relates to constant Covid-19 testing, vaccinations and control of human traffic frequenting the premises is gradually bringing sanity and orderliness. We should continue on this path to minimize our staff being exposed to this scourge. We are however encouraged by the appetite to vaccinate by the whole nation. Cumulatively we have now achieved the two (2) million mark as we strive to meet herd immunity. We should take heed to ensure that all our constituencies do not become complacent as the realization that this pandemic is real is now dawning on the nation. We are also equally concerned by the high infections rates in Masvingo and hoping that stringent Covid-19 measures be implemented.”
Meanwhile ZANU PF Secretary for Health Cde David Parirenyatwa has encouraged the public to adhere to covid-19 World Health Guidelines while advocating for a healthy lifestyle.
“Vaccination clearly saves lives this is why we are pleased that we at the Headquarters have gone out to do vaccination of our staff including some of their spouses. We are urging more of virtual meetings to be conducted and that we continue to sanitize, wash hands, social distance and stay at home. Exercise, eat well, sleep well and drink a lot of water.”
