Greenlight for Branches Elections

Patriots Reporter

ZANU PF has authorised braches executive committees’ elections to be conducted before this week end, as the party restructuring process continues.

The Acting Secretary for Commissariat Cde Patrick Chinamasa, in a circular addressed to provinces, said the second phase of the on-going restructuring process will see branch chairpersons of all the party wings being elected by all members in the cells or villages organised during the onset of the process.

The remaining one hundred and fifty six (156) posts will be elected through the Basket System to ensure that all cells or villages are fairly represented.

This communiqué comes a week after the Commissariat department banned co-options and votes of no confidence, declaring any action of that manner conducted from April 2021 null and void.

This circular serves to authorise Provinces to come into second phase of the party restructuring exercises and conduct elections for party branches by 22nd of August 2021. Provinces must take into account that there are four Wings in the party, namely the main wing, the Women’s league, Youth league and Veterans of the Liberation Struggle league,” said Cde Chinamasa.

“Chairpersons of the above mentioned wings shall be elected by all members in the cells/villages in the branches while the remaining one hundred and fifty six members shall be elected through the Basket System. This system ensures that all party cells/villages making up the branch are fairly represented in the branch executive committee.

“The one hundred and fifty six posts should be divided equally by the number of cells/villages in the branch. Each cell will elect its quota to represent it in the branch executive committee.”

The Party said these elections will be decentralised and must be done in compliance with the current Covid 19 level 4 restrictive measures.

Provincial chairpersons will guide the election process such that there will be no crowding of people during the elections as required by the Covid 19 protocols.
